Etekcity ESN00 scale: 5 kilograms, the VeSync app, and a 1-gram step

A cup of flour is not one number. A scale gives a number. The Etekcity ESN00 is a flat nutrition scale, with a stainless surface, that connects to an app. It is not a baking scale that reads a tenth of a gram, and that difference is written in the specification. The pages and the manual were checked on 20 October 2026. We did not weigh with them in a kitchen. The price on the US product page that day is 39.99 dollars. There is no price in shekels here.
What the page says, and what the manual says
On the ESN00 page Etekcity lists up to 19 nutrients, trend tracking, and a daily, weekly and monthly report through the VeSync app, plus a connection to Apple Health and to Fitbit. The Nutritionix database is described there as holding about a million food items, and you can add your own food. That is the maker's claim about the size of the database, not our count. A barcode scanner, on the same page, is currently available only in the United States. The sentence there is written with a spelling error, and the limit is clear even without correcting it: someone who is not in the United States does not get a promise from this page that the barcode works.
The surface is food-grade 304 stainless steel. The marketing line about units says ounce, pound and ounce, grams for water and milk, and millilitres for water and milk. In the specification table on the same page the units are ounce, pound and ounce, grams and millilitres, without repeating "water and milk." We did not merge the two sentences. Someone weighing oil should not assume that the millilitres on the screen are millilitres of oil, if the line above is talking about water and milk.
Accuracy also has two lines. In the marketing: between 3 grams and 5,000 grams, in steps of 1 gram. In the table: capacity 176.4 ounces, 11 pounds, 5,000 grams, 5,000 millilitres. The steps: 0.1 ounce, 1 gram, 1 millilitre. The table does not repeat the 3-gram floor. Someone weighing 2 grams of yeast is not inside a step of a whole gram, even if the 3-gram floor is not written in the table.
The screen light turns off after 30 to 120 seconds, and that range can be changed in the app. The scale itself turns off after 120 seconds. Dimensions: 9.2 by 6.3 by 0.6 inches, or 235 by 160 by 16.5 millimetres. Three AAA batteries of 1.5 volts. On the page: 30 days to return it, a two-year limited warranty. Four sensors appear in the marketing line, not in the dimension table.
In the ESN00 manual the same capacity and the same steps, and the same height of 16.5 millimetres. In the manual the site marks as the Walmart version the height is 17 millimetres, not 16.5. The other rows we read there are similar. Half a millimetre will not change a drawer, and it does show that the file on the site is not one copy.
The main manual says to download VeSync, not VeSyncFit. A guest account is not enough for third-party services. With an account you can, according to the manual, also let the family use the scale, and the records stay if you change phones. If there is no connection: the phone needs to be within 30 feet, 10 metres, and the scale talks to one Bluetooth device at a time. That is a troubleshooting line, not a promise of reception through a wall.
ESN90, when a 1-gram step is too coarse
On the ESN90 page the price shown on 20 October 2026 is 18.99 dollars. The page is shorter. The ESN90 manual gives the same ceiling, 5,000 grams, and a different step: under 1,000 grams the step is 0.1 gram, and from 1,000 to 5,000 the step is 1 gram. In ounces: under 35 ounces the step is 0.01, and from 35 to 176 the step is 0.05. The auto-off can be set between 30 and 180 seconds. The dimensions are 8.1 by 6.5 by 1.3 inches, thicker than the ESN00. VeSync again, and the same 30-foot range in the troubleshooting line.
| ESN00 | ESN90 | |
|---|---|---|
| Price on the day we checked | 39.99 dollars | 18.99 dollars |
| Ceiling | 5,000 grams | 5,000 grams |
| Step in grams | 1 gram | 0.1 gram under a kilogram, then 1 |
| Height | 16.5 mm on the page, 17 mm in the Walmart file | 1.3 inches in the manual |
Someone weighing flour for a cake in the hundreds of grams can live with a 1-gram step. Someone weighing yeast, baking powder or salt in a single-digit amount will feel the difference between 0.1 and 1. The ESN90 was cheaper on the day we checked, and it is also less thin. The ESN00 is thinner, 16.5 millimetres, and coarser. Neither of them is a laboratory scale.
The ESN00 barcode scanner is limited to the United States according to the page. We did not find a matching sentence on the ESN90 page, so we do not attribute the same limit to it, and we do not attribute the absence of the limit either. The 19 nutrients and the million items are wording from the ESN00. We did not copy them onto the ESN90.
Tare, units, and what not to put on the platform
The tare button zeroes the weight of the bowl. Without that, the 5,000 grams include the vessel, and the recipe gets a number that is too high. The manual describes the mode on the screen. The order in the kitchen is simple: bowl, tare, then the food. If you forget, the number is too large and the recipe "does not come out," and the scale is not at fault. Write the tare into the first step of a baking recipe you saved, because that is the step that breaks when you hurry.
Units are a decision before you weigh, not after. Grams against ounces change the whole line. Millilitres on the scale, if they are calculated from water or milk the way the marketing line suggests, are not millilitres of olive oil and not of honey. Weigh oil in grams. Do not guess the density from the screen. The cup guide shows why flour charts move by tens of grams. A scale with a 1-gram step closes the argument about the flour only if you weigh the flour, not if you keep filling a cup because "that is how it is written."
5 kilograms are a generous ceiling for a bowl of vegetables, and short for a person's weight or a whole sack of flour. 11 pounds on the page are the same order of magnitude, not a conversion we made separately. Someone dividing a 10-kilogram sack does it in two weighings or more, or on another scale. The shutoff after 120 seconds on the ESN00 means you do not set a bowl down and talk for five minutes. You come back, wake it, and tare again. In the app you can, according to the page, extend the screen light up to 120 seconds, not the shutoff time beyond what is written in the ESN00 table. On the ESN90 the shutoff itself can be set up to 180 seconds. For someone who mixes slowly, that is the everyday difference, not only the 0.1-gram step.
The platform is thin. 16.5 millimetres fit in a drawer. They also mean you do not put the scale on a hot hob and you do not pour liquid batter onto it without a bowl. 304 stainless is easy to wipe, according to the maker's wording, and it does not turn the device into something that belongs in a dishwasher. The manual we read did not say dishwasher. Wipe it.
A VeSync account keeps a history. If the kitchen is shared and you do not want a food diary in the cloud, you can weigh without the app: the screen shows grams before pairing too. The connection is needed for the 19 nutrients, for the American barcode, and for Apple Health. For a recipe that says "200 grams of flour" the screen is enough. That is a choice, not an obligation to open an account in order to bake.
What the scale does not solve in a recipe
A connected scale still requires you to put the food on it. It does not read a cup out of a paragraph. In the guide to how many grams are in a cup the gap between flour charts is the reason to weigh, not a reason to trust a cup even when there is an app. Converting an English recipe sits next to the ounce and millilitre units, because an American recipe will ask for cups and the scale will ask for grams.
KitchenAppes does not pull data from VeSync, and there is no such claim here. According to the KitchenAppes homepage, cooking mode keeps the screen on and shows one step at a time, and timers start directly from the step that needs them. You check the number from the scale against the step, and then you move on. The shopping list stays a list. It does not become a scale. You can browse the community recipes on KitchenAppes and read more about us.
Before you connect another account, the article on Wi-Fi talks about other devices, but the question is the same question: what the app receives. Here, according to Etekcity, it is a nutrition diary, not a recipe. Apple Health and Fitbit appear on the ESN00 page. We did not check exactly what is sent to them.
Questions
Does 39.99 dollars include the ESN90?
No. 39.99 is what the ESN00 page showed on 20 October 2026. The ESN90 page showed 18.99 on the same day. Two American prices, without tax and without a conversion.
Why is there both 3 grams and a step of 1 gram?
The marketing line says 3 to 5,000 grams in steps of 1 gram. The specification table says a capacity of 5,000 grams and a step of 1 gram, with no floor. We did not delete either line.
Will the barcode scanner work in Israel?
The page says the scanner is currently available only in the United States. We did not find a promise there for another country.
VeSync or VeSyncFit?
The manual says VeSync, and it warns not to confuse it with VeSyncFit. A guest account does not turn on the third-party services.
Does the scale connect to a recipe in KitchenAppes?
Not according to what we published. You weigh, you read the step, and you continue. Etekcity's connection is to its nutrition diary, not to the recipe app.
